London in Solitude; A To Do List

So let’s say your weekend plans got cancelled, your friend’s fish died and they just can’t take the pain of leaving the house, now what? No matter what has brought you to the moment where you’re looking for things to do alone in London, you’re here. So it’s best to get outside, and learn to enjoy your solitude rather than sit at home and scroll on Instagram at all the people that are seemingly having a way better life than you right now. The thing is, London can be an incredible place to venture on your own. Whilst to some it may seem incredibly daunting, once you really get into it, you’ll find yourself really taking in every part of it. Thousands of people are going to be doing the exact same thing as you are, so try not to feel too self conscious. So here’s a list of a few fun things you can do in London all on your own!

Starting off with something that usually you wouldn’t do alone, but change the screen to 10% of the size and your binge watching the Office on Netflix for three days straight with only yourself and your half empty bag of Doritos. We’re talking about going to the cinema. London has some incredible cinemas, we’ve even wrote about a few of the independent ones before which you can check out here. There are lots of options in the kind of films you want to see, and in what setting! Whether you want comfy sofas or rooftop deck chairs. There are cinemas, pop up and permanent, every where. What else do you hate more than going to the cinema with someone who just talks throughout and asks too many questions? That’s why going alone is best, you can relax and enjoy the films that nobody else seems that interested in.

After those few hours sitting in the darkness really thinking about that plot twist and whether it actually makes sense, it’s best to maybe go out for a walk! Stretch your legs and take in some interesting knowledge, and lots of useless facts you’ll probably only use again in the Christmas trivia. We’re talking about self-guided tours. There are lots all around London, you can go at your own pace, and pick any of the hundreds of routes available depending on how far you want to go, and what kind of things you want to learn. There’s also lots of great apps that can help guide you along the tours of some of your favourite stories, such as Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and more. Time Out Magazine’s App even has GPS triggered audio which is a very full on experience!

Finally, after lots of walking out and about maybe you want to head in side, there’s endless options of museums and art galleries across London, and a lot of them are free. We wrote a blog about the biggest museums in London which you can read up on here. There is so many limited time exhibits across the capital, so even if you go to all the same places again within a couple months you’ll still see entirely different and new things! Art galleries on your own are just wonderful, getting to spend as long as you want staring into the piece like Cam from Ferris Bueller’s Day off until you get completely lost in it. Can’t exactly do that when you have people hanging off your arm about wanting to get food or go somewhere else.

There is so much to enjoy in London completely alone, hopefully you can really take in the great city!
