Happy 2019 London!
So we’re already a couple of weeks into 2019, and we’re dealing with snow, Brexit, and all the other issues that come with being a Londoner. There is still a lot of high hopes for 2019, lots of new opportunities off the back of a fresh start. With so many events this year, lots of festivals, art exhibitions, and a lot of culture to take in aswell there’s no way you can’t let the fun distract for at least a few hours from the rest of the mess happening right now. We will be posting new blogs weekly about lots of events, tip, and tricks of London and more, but for now let’s talk about some of the biggest events this year so you have a few things to look forward to!
Starting off with Chinese New Year Celebrations. In 2019, Chinese New Year will fall on the 5th of February and celebrates the Year of the Pig. With the majority of the festivities placed in Trafalgar Square and Chinatown on the 10th of February! You can watch the colourful Chinese New Year parade pass through the streets of the West End and Chinatown. There will also be all-day entertainment and stage performances over in Trafalgar Square, so there’s lots of opportunities to enjoy the festivities and take in the beautiful culture.
Onto another amazing event that comes around every year. We have Pride in London, with lots going on all throughout July all over London, you’ll never run out of ways to celebrate the wonderful individuality of the people in London. With Soho and Trafalgar Square being the main place for the biggest parts of it, you’ll even find the backstreets of London celebrating with pop up shops, and gallery showings too. Even though it’s not confirmed it’s very likely that the main pride parade will be on the Saturday the 6th of July, but we will update this blog closer to the time! There is over 300 groups and floats that will be moving through the pride parade route that goes from Portland Place Station, and finishing up at Trafalgar Square where there will be a massive party, lots of music, theatre performances, and even more fun. There’s always lots of surprises though, so make sure to turn up, and you’ll most definitely enjoy it!
Next up we have the infamous Notting Hill Carnival, which is in August every year, and this 2019 will fall on the 24th of August, until the 26th! With over two million people attending 2018’s Notting Hill Carnival it is by far Europe’s biggest street festival! The annual event is always vibrant and exciting, celebrating and showcasing London’s beautiful multicultural past and present. The carnival spreads all throughout W10 in West London, with the festivities taking over Westbourne Park, Ladbroke Grove, and obviously Notting Hill. Still, the massive size of the event can definitely be quite daunting, but luckily seen as it’s such a big event there is a of plans, routes, and pop ups set up so you can guide your day perfectly. We posted a blog for last year’s festival on the best ways to enjoy the festival without losing all your friends and going hungry, so look out for a new one this year too!
Hopefully the thought of some of these amazing events coming around soon will get your hopes up a bit, but for now, enjoy the warmth of a cozy sofa, and cup of hot chocolate, and if you’re really not a home body, then there’s lots of spots inside London, that can keep you warm and entertained, look out for next week’s post for just that!
