Guy Fawkes Night: Where to see fireworks?
Remember, remember the 5th of November… We sure did! London culture is home to Guy Fawkes night, where we eat toffee apples, light bonfires and set off fireworks. For those of you who don’t know about Bonfire night, or who Guy Fawkes even is? We are here to help. Dated back in 1605 there was a man called Guy Fawkes. He set an elaborate plan to blow up the Houses of Parliment, however, his plan was discovered and he failed. This failure is now celebrated with a bonfire, occasionally some people will burn effigies of Guy Fawkes. This is to symbolise the fall of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Gone are the days when you would stand in an empty field with a few fireworks and a sparkler. London has taken this night and spread it across a few days. If you are in London you will hear fireworks going off the days leading up to November 5th and the days after. If you are attending a London event it is likely you will now find fair rides, food and drink stalls to entertain. Guy Fawkes day has hit a new high - you will always find new displays and locations joining in. However, with so many options available to you, it can be difficult to decide which one to go to. Do not worry, we are here to recommend the best places to go.
Local community centers and schools
Local places like schools and centers are a great option if you are on a budget and have children to entertain. Local schools are a good way to go, as the children will be able to play with their school friends while the adults enjoy a hot beverage and great conversation. Local places will often have food and drink available, but be prepared for a children themed evening. This won’t be the place to go if you are looking for a night away from the young ones.
If you are on the hunt for a more sophisticated night, the next few places might just be for you!
