Happiness Happens Day: 10 things to do!

Yes, that's right. Today marks, 'Happiness Happens' day! In light of this, I began thinking about what actually makes humans happy. Is it other people? Great food? Likes on an Instagram post? What is it that truly makes us happy? Many people would say happiness stems from the desire to feel good about ourselves. However, others believe humans have an innate sense to do good and bring happiness to the people around them. How do we do this? I am going to give you some tips. Continue, reading for my ways to spend 'Happiness Happens' day.

1) To get this list started, I want you to think of your best friend. Think about the positive impact they have on you and the support they show within your relationship. Wouldn't you love to make them happy? Maybe they have been having a really stressful time lately and just need some appreciation? Instead of going to the movies or finding a nice restaurant, wander around London and see what you find. You could visit the Sky Garden, the Shard or even Primrose Hill as these are known to have some of the best views in London. Landscapes can be extremely picturesque; spending an evening in front of one brings an unimaginable amount of happiness. It is an inexpensive evening that you won't forget.

2) A great way to bring happiness to others is by helping them get something they cannot obtain. For example, a homeless person struggles to get food and shelter. In this situation, you could give them some food as this is something they may struggle to get. Helping someone less fortunate than yourself is a good way to spend today. Let's spread positivity and better someone's life. Further to this, you could contact the local homeless shelter and assist them in helping the person get a bed for a night.

3) You can spend your day giving back to one person or you can head down to your local community center and volunteer your time! This can be one of the most valuable things you can offer.  Community centers don't often make a lot of money; this means any free time is a blessing. They might just need general help or maybe they need something specific that fits your skill set.

4) If you want to spread happiness today, find some free exhibitions in your area. Often when setting up a free entry event, the hosts want as many people there as possible. You could help your community by taking your friends to these exhibitions. You might even be inspired to do one yourself! If you are London based, a popular place to visit is the Battersea Art Centre. They always have events going on and if you are looking to start an event yourself, they will happily give you a hand!

5) Staying along the lines of community work; charity shops and homeless shelters are always in need of some helping hands. This is another example of how to volunteer your time and do good. Helping your local area benefits everyone involved, the shop owners, the charity, the community and you.

6) If you find your time is limited, you can still make a difference to someone's life today. If you can't volunteer, donate instead. Not money, but clothing and toys you don't need. Let someone else gain happiness from things you don't use anymore.

7) There are always events happening around London. No matter where you go you will find a quirky, education or even motivational event happening. If you find yourself or your friends stuck for ideas today, find a local event and get involved!

8) The aim of today is to evoke happiness and better someone's life. Something I always tell people to master is the art of listening. Simply listening with the good intent to give meaningful advice. Get rid of the negative talk too; always be positive in your listening. We don't want to put someone down or inflict negative emotion on them.

9) Fundraisers and charity events can be a great way to bring about positive change and impact. It can be fun planning the event but it is even better when the proceedings are going to charity. London is forecasted as sunny, again! Take advantage of this and host a fundraiser outside and get others involved. You could do a children's day, with slides and face paint. In contrast, you could set up a music festival for your community; get exposure for local bands and bring people together.

10) Most of the above have been fairly big actions that take time to do. However, you do not need to do something big to make someone happy. Small actions have a huge impact on people. London is such a busy city with the population going at a hundred miles per hour. Today, I want you to take a moment to stop and smile at someone. You might just make their day!

Happiness is the most precious emotion and we should be spreading it at every opportunity we get. I hope you take some inspiration from our list of kind and happy gestures and make someone's day, just a little brighter!

Have a wonderful, 'Happiness Happens' day!
