Pancake Day in London!

Whether you like your pancakes sweet or savoury, covered in Nutella, or maple syrup, we’re just around the corner from Pancake Day so make your mind up! There will be some perfect pancake tosses, maybe some not so perfect ones and possibly some on the floor too. Pancake Day has an official name and that is Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is a traditional feast day which marks the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence, that can often involve clearing your cupboards of fats, sugars, eggs, and more. So the easiest way to use up these ingredients comes in the form of pancakes. So, London has taken the opportunity to use Shrove Tuesday to make some of the best pancakes and have some fun too. This year Pancake Day will be on Tuesday the 25th of February, however some places around London have fun pancake related events across this weekend coming too. January blues have come and gone, and the longest gap between paychecks is finally over. There are so many brilliant things to do in February, even though the days aren’t necessarily any brighter, and still definitely just as cold, we can still have fun. Now we’ve got important days like Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day this month, but don’t worry we have seperate blogs for those coming out in the next couple weeks. For now though, we’ve got events every weekend for you to enjoy, festivals, pop-ups and more!  Right round the corner, tomorrow we have the ‘Plant Powered Expo’ coming to Olympia London! RIO DE JANEIRO CARNIVAL 2014 The Rio Carnival 2014 is quickly approaching! It will take place this year from February 28 to March 4. Don’t worry if you can’t afford the air fare or the time off work, we’re going to inform you about what’s going on in the capital this year. With four days of street parties, music and dancing all over Brazil . This festival, which dates back to 1823, is the biggest in the world. One of the most important events in the carnival is the Samba Parade. The Rio Samba parade is very different from all other street parades held at other places in the world. It started as street festivities with groups of people parading through the street playing music and dancing.  The parades developed into something special, a big competition between the samba schools. Super Bowl is the Sunday on which the Super Bowl is played, normally in early February. Thousands of people gather to watch the game and the meeting is really well know due to the large amount of food that is consumed by attendees.  At the beginning, the Super Bowl was celebrated only in the United States, but every year new countries join the celebration of the game. The Super Bowl has frequently been the most watched American television broadcast yearly.  As a result, many high profile television commercials are broadcast during the game, often coming by major brands ( Budweiser, Mercedes, Audi... ), but also smaller brands seeking the exposure that can be obtained through the advertising in the match.  Super Bowl advertisements have also become a cultural phenomenon of their own; many viewers only watch the game to see the commercials, while national surveys  judge which advertisement carried the best viewer response.
